Mustard Seed Match

Purpose

The Mustard Seed Match for Endowed Tuition Assistance Scholarships will expand student access to Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore by establishing in the Catholic Community Foundation (CCF) individual school endowment funds for the exclusive purpose of providing tuition assistance scholarships.

Plan

All four categories of our 68 schools referenced below are eligible to receive a matching grant funded by monies raised through the Embracing Our Mission – Shaping Our Future capital campaign.  All funds associated with the Mustard Seed Match - both campaign matching funds and qualified funds raised by the schools – will be placed in the school's CCF tuition assistance endowment funds.  The parameters for the match are as follows:

  Maximum RaisedMustard Seed Match
AOB Secondary Schools$200,000$100,000
Independent Secondary Schools$150,000$ 75,000
AOB Elementary/Middle Schools$150,000$ 75,000
Independent Elementary/Middle Schools$100,000$50,000

Approach

  • School submits Participation Agreement Form to CCF by January 15, 2015.
  • School completes an Endowment Fund Agreement within the CCF solely to support tuition assistance scholarships. (If school already has an eligible fund within the CCF, this requirement has already been met.)
  • School initiates fundraising efforts with the following criteria*:
    • Eligible gifts for the match must be new gifts to the endowed scholarship fund and must be received from October 1, 2014  through December 31, 2015; and
    • Donor gifts may either be designated to the endowed fund; or the school may direct unrestricted donations to the fund.
  • Upon completion of the School's fundraising results, monies raised by the school plus the endowment fund match will be placed within the school's CCF endowment fund.
  • A school's new endowment, funded during 2015, will be eligible for its first annual distribution in September of 2017.  For qualified existing school endowment funds within the CCF, the first distribution on the additional amount will be September of 2016.

*Please note: The endowment fund match is subject to the CCF's receipt of funds from the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Embracing Our Mission ~ Shaping Our Future capital campaign, and further, that all distributions are subject to standard CCF distribution regulations.
